Name Creating a Well-Organized Canvas Course at Visalia Adult School, Part 2
Date Monday, November 30, 2026
Time 09:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Description

This hands-on, self-paced workshop provides instructors with an opportunity to review and practice the essential Canvas LMS skills covered in previous training. Participants will work independently through guided activities and apply Canvas tools directly in a practice course.

The workshop begins with a review of Pages, Assignments, and Modules, followed by an introduction to assessment and accessibility practices in Canvas. Participants will also practice creating and managing Discussions and Announcements to support student engagement and communication.

The final section introduces Canvas Commons, where participants will learn how to navigate Commons, search and filter available resources, preview content, and import resources into a Canvas course.

Topics Covered

  • Pages, Assignments & Modules: Review how these tools work together to organize course content and learning activities.

  • Assessment: Explore Canvas options for checking student learning and providing grades or feedback.

  • Accessibility: Review basic practices for creating accessible Canvas content, including headings, links, images, and multimedia.

  • Discussions: Create and use discussions to encourage student participation, interaction, and reflection.

  • Announcements: Use announcements to communicate important information, reminders, and updates to students.

  • Canvas Commons: Navigate Commons, search and filter resources, preview content, and practice importing content into a Canvas course.

Workshop Format

This is a self-paced, hands-on workshop. Participants will learn by completing guided activities and practice tasks rather than listening to a lengthy presentation. Support will be available throughout the workshop as participants work through the activities at their own pace.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have reviewed the core Canvas tools and practiced using them to organize content, assess learning, communicate with students, improve accessibility, and find and import instructional resources through Canvas Commons.
