Description
This session covers Gmail, Contacts, and Safety as well as how to use the Gmail effectively in an adult education classroom. Other topics include: filter settings, keyboard shortcuts, attaching and saving files to and from Drive, creating contacts and contact groups and their purpose, and recognizing different safety issues encountered in one's Inbox as well as the action to take.
 
Areas covered include but are not limited to:
  • Inbox: Along with sending and reading messages, inboxes can be set to organize and prioritize automatically within settings. Gmail can also be "trained" to mark message as Social, Promotion, or Updates. After a user updates settings, messages upon receipt can reflect the options like starring important conversations so important messages stand out. Snooze options, labels, and filters are other useful tools within Gmail are also covered.
  • Templates: Gmail templates allows a user to save a custom email on file and then send it anytime needed. Topics covered will include creating, editing, and deleting templates as well as inserting them into Gmail.
  • Attachments: The "handshake" between Gmail and Drive will be covered where: files sent by others can be opened and/or saved directly to a users Drive, attachments can be added to messages without ever leaving a message, and other storage options.
  • Safety: tips on sending and receiving email safely, recognizing safety issues, blocks and filters, and actions to take  when messages are "questionable."
  • Contacts: Send a message to groups instead of individuals to avoid entering every name separately. Along with creating contacts, creating contact groups that can be used within Gmail to send group messages will be covered as well as scheduling messages will also be covered and more as time allows or is requested (per requesting program*).

PREREQUISITES

All participants must have basic computer skills and know their logon information for a public Google (@gmail.com) or Google Workspace for Education (@district.org) account. Additional requirements may apply.
