Google: Classroom for Adult Education

Name Google: Classroom for Adult Education
Date 8/30/2019
Time 12:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Description

Google Classroom is a free blended and learning management system that allows educators to create online classes where they can then enroll students, distribute, grade or return assignments, communicate with individuals or entire classes, send feedback, and see everything in one place. With Google Workspace for Education or public Google account, Classroom is available to anyone in any browser and is even a downloadable app on iOS and Android devices.

This workshop will cover the basics of Google Classroom and includes: steps of creating classes, assignments, and conversation streams, enrolling students, tracking and grading assignment status, calendaring and due dates, weighting grades, as well as tips for getting the most out of an online Classroom. At the end of the workshop, all participants will have created a Classroom, enrolled students, created assignments, announcements, and questions, graded assignments, responded to students, and created activities using Google forms.

Prerequisites:

  1. Participants should bring a class syllabus and/or a few assignments to include in their new Classroom (assignments may be paper or digital.)
  2. All participants must have basic computer skills and know their login information for a public Google (@gmail.com) or Google Workspace for Education (@district.org) account
An OTAN Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those that have pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.

OTAN workshops may be requested, customized, and scheduled by qualifying adult education agencies for their staff as targeted professional development.

OTAN workshops may be conducted as a "hands-on”, where participants are asked to provide their own devices, as “presentations” where a product or ideas are introduced, or as a discussion where all are encouraged to participate in a conversation around a specific idea or topic.

The desired outcome of every OTAN workshop is that participants will have a working understanding of the application or topics discussed and modeled.
