Description This course takes place entirely online and runs for four consecutive weeks, from 3/6/2023 – 4/2/2023. Weekly participation is required, though participants may, during a given week, log in whenever they wish. A kick-off Webinar will take place during the first week. This course focuses on the alignment of teaching materials to the College and Career Readiness Standards on English language arts (ELA) and the application of the standards in the classroom using practical tools and strategies. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of participation (14 hours); they are also eligible to apply to CSUS for 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) if they wish. Registration ends on 3/10/2023.
Goals The course is free of charge to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II: Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (WIOA, Title II: AEFLA) funded programs.

Facilitator Participants will be able to: • Demonstrate understanding of the CCRS’s purpose, key elements, and place in adult education, especially as they relate to the participants’ program and classroom instruction • Understand the format, purpose, and key terms related to the ELA CCRS and where to find them in the standards document. • Apply Webb’s Depth of Knowledge levels to be able to adapt activities, assignments, and/or assessments specific to ELA instruction • Modify current classroom materials, using Webb’s Depth of Knowledge levels as a guide so that the materials meet the demands of the CCRS.
