Description The California Department of Education (CDE) and the California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) are pleased to offer a regional Community of Practice (CoP) on Integrated and Contextualized Workforce Skills in the ESL Classroom. This blended learning CoP incorporates both online collaborative work and face-to-face sessions at Santa Monica College - Bundy Campus on Friday, March 13, and at Santa Monica Adult Education Center on Friday, March 27, 2020. This training is intended to assist instructors of adult ESL students of all proficiency levels to construct and conduct lessons in ways that teach “soft skills” or “transferable skills” that are critically important for students to succeed in school, at work and in the community. Examples of “soft/transferable” skills are leadership, collaboration, problem solving and goal-setting. Given the current emphasis on workforce development and postsecondary transitions, this training is especially timely and applicable. CLICK HERE TO APPLY
Goals Provide background and practice instructional approaches for integrating skills transferablefrom the ESL classroom to the workplace. Learn to teach students how to articulate those skillsthrough hands-on application activities.

Registration Information CALPRO provides professional development services to adult educators from agencies funded by Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II: Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (WIOA, Title II: AEFLA). When spaces are available, CALPRO will admit adult educators from non-WIOA funded agencies. There is no registration fee to participate. Attend both Face-to-face Sessions Dates: Fridays, March 13, 2020 11:30 am - 2:30 pm and March 27, 2020 11:30 am - 2:30 pm. Registration/application deadline is Wednesday, February 26, 2020.
